Since joining chambers upon successful completion of his pupillage in 2010, Thomas has developed a busy practice specialising in all aspects of clinical negligence, professional negligence, personal injury, regulatory / disciplinary law and police law. He is experienced in trial, tribunal, inquest and appellate advocacy in the County Court and High Court as well as ADR.

Clinical Negligence: Thomas has experience of acting (mostly for Defendants) in cases concerning the alleged negligence of all types of medical practitioner and has experience of all levels of litigation. He has particular experience of surgical, oncological and obstetric/neonatal cases, and has represented various parties in coronial inquests.

Professional Negligence: he receives instruction in cases involving alleged negligence by all forms of professional, including predominantly solicitors, surveyors, conveyancers and veterinarians. He has experience of lenders’ claims (including fraud), mismanagement of property conveyancing and under settlement of personal injury claims.  Thomas has also been instructed in a number of ‘novel’ duty of care cases including recently: the liability of local authority benefits advisors, unregulated all-paralegal law firms, private immigration consultants, beauticians, and practitioners of complementary medicine. 

Personal Injury: Thomas regularly represents both claimant and defendants, including a large number of public bodies (including local authorities, their various departments, police forces and NHS trusts/health authorities) as well as insurers, in a broad range of cases involving employers’ liability, health and safety law, public liability, medical care, highways liability, cases involving allegations of breaches of human rights, and cases where fraud is alleged. 

Regulatory / Disciplinary Law: Thomas has appeared in several high-profile cases before the Conduct and Competence Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and cases representing jockeys before Disciplinary Committees in both the UK and in Dubai.

Police Law: Thomas acts for various police forces in cases across the spectrum of alleged police mal/misfeasance. He has considerable experience of cases brought by vexatious litigants, and has successfully obtained Civil Restraint Orders in the past.

Thomas comes to the Bar with a history and politics degree from the University of York and was awarded the David Karmel and Edmund Davies Scholarships from Gray's Inn whilst qualifying for the Bar. In May 2012, he won a scholarship from the South Eastern Circuit and the Florida Bar to attend the Advanced Advocacy Programme at the University of Florida.

He is a member of the Bar Council’s Education and Training Committee and administers Chambers’ Mini Pupillage Scheme.
