Year of Call: 2014

Katie is willing to take instructions in all areas of chambers expertise. She has a busy court practice and is in Court almost every day, appearing in trials, procedural applications, CMCs, CCMCs, disposal hearings, and CICA appeals. She regularly represents claimants, private defendants and public bodies (including local authorities, police forces and NHS trusts) and insurers.

She has a particular interest in professional (including clinical) negligence law. She receives instruction in cases involving alleged negligence by solicitors, surveyors, conveyancers, insurance brokers, architects, and all forms of medical professionals.

Katie has experience of advising in both contentious and non-contentious insurance matters and can advise generally on the interpretation of specific policy terms and coverage disputes.

Whilst under the supervision of Sarah Prager she gained experience in travel law. She has appeared in cases governed by the Rome II Regulation and involving applicable law and jurisdictional disputes. She is keen to receive instructions involving an international and/or EU-law element.

Katie is looking to develop her public law and human rights practice. She has experience of claims brought under Articles 2, 3, 6 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Such claims arise in particular within her Police and Local Authority work and also in several immigration appeals in which she has been instructed.

Katie has recently been appointed to the Attorney General’s C Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown (to do civil work on behalf of the Government departments).

Katie comes to the Bar with a Philosophy, Psychology and Physiology degree from the University of Oxford (Worcester College).

She was awarded a major GDL entrance award and the Denise Pannick BPTC scholarship from Gray's Inn whilst qualifying for the Bar. Katie gained a ‘Distinction’ in the GDL and was graded ‘Outstanding’ on the BPTC, in both years achieving the highest marks in the year at her provider.

In May 2014, she won the Gray’s Inn Moot Competition and was awarded the 3 Raymond Buildings, DuCann Memorial Scholarship for mooting.

Before coming to the Bar Katie worked in M&A for NM Rothschild & Sons in the Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals team.
