Julian specialises in personal injury with particular experience in catastrophic injury, brain damage and psychiatric cases; clinical negligence and the misdiagnosing of cancer; claims against public authorities; claims involving the police, including unlawful arrest, malicious prosecution and challenges to warrants; libel and slander.  He has been involved in several high profile inquests. He has also developed a particular expertise in Human Rights Act law.

Julian acted for the defendant in the leading personal injury case of Painting v University of Oxford which concerned a costs order against an exaggerating but successful claimant. More recently he has been instructed in a number of Human Rights Act cases including the high profile Van Colle case regarding the protection of witnesses and the right to life.
